Repenting in the sight of God.

Introduction

This workbook is designed to help you deepen your understanding of repentance through Scripture, reflection, and actionable steps. Spend about 30 minutes engaging with the readings and activities below.

1. Scripture Reading (10 minutes)

Read the following passages:

  1. 2 Corinthians 7:9-10 (NIV)

“Yet now I am happy, not because you were made sorry, but because your sorrow led you to repentance. For you became sorrowful as God intended and so were not harmed in any way by us. Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regret, but worldly sorrow brings death.”

  1. Acts 3:19 (NIV)

“Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord.”

  1. Matthew 4:17 (NIV)

“From that time on Jesus began to preach, ‘Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near.’”

  1. Romans 11:29 (NIV)

“For God’s gifts and his call are irrevocable.”

2. Reflection Questions (10 minutes)

Take a few moments to reflect on the passages you've read. Write your thoughts in a journal or on a separate sheet of paper.

  1. Godly vs. Worldly Sorrow:

    • What differences do you see between godly sorrow and worldly sorrow in your life?

    • How can you identify when you are experiencing each type?

  2. Personal Repentance:

    • Reflect on a time when you felt godly sorrow. What was the outcome of that experience?

    • Are there areas in your life where you need to turn back to God?

  3. Understanding Authority:

    • How does knowing you are seated with Christ impact your view of authority in prayer?

    • In what ways can you exercise this authority in your daily life?

3. Action Points (10 minutes)

Choose one or more of the following action steps to implement this week:

  1. Prayer of Repentance:

    • Spend time in prayer, asking God to reveal areas where you need to repent. Write a short prayer expressing your desire to turn back to Him.

  2. Journaling:

    • Write a list of things you are thankful for regarding God’s gifts and calling in your life. Reflect on how these gifts are irrevocable.

  3. Sharing Your Journey:

    • Reach out to a friend or a member of your church community. Share your reflections on repentance and how you are seeking to grow in your faith.

  4. Daily Affirmation:

    • Create a daily affirmation that reminds you of God’s sovereignty and your identity as His heir. Repeat this affirmation each morning.

Closing Prayer

Take a moment to pray, asking God to help you internalize what you’ve learned about godly sorrow and repentance. Seek His guidance as you strive to live out your faith more fully.
