Discovering Gods true nature and heart for us.

Introduction

This workbook is designed to help you deepen your understanding of who God truly is, moving beyond a contractual view of faith to a relational one. Over the next 30 minutes, you will engage with Scripture, reflect on your relationship with God, and take action steps to strengthen your faith.

Session Outline

  1. Scripture Reading

  2. Reflection Questions

  3. Action Points

1. Scripture Reading (10 minutes)

A. The Ten Commandments: Exodus 20:1-17 (NIV)

Read through the Ten Commandments. Consider their significance in establishing a relationship with God.

B. New Covenant: Hebrews 8:6-13 (NIV)

Reflect on the shift from the old covenant to the new covenant through Christ, focusing on the heart of the relationship.

2. Reflection Questions (10 minutes)

Take time to ponder these questions. Write your responses in the space provided.

A. What do the Ten Commandments reveal about God’s character and His desire for relationship with us?

B. In what ways have you approached God from a contractual perspective? List any specific expectations you’ve placed on Him.

C. How does the idea of a new covenant challenge your understanding of God? What does it mean to relate to Him at a heart level rather than through contracts?

3. Action Points (10 minutes)

Reflect on the insights gained and consider the following action points. Choose at least two to implement this week.

  1. Prayer Commitment: Spend time in prayer this week focusing on God’s nature rather than your needs. Approach Him with questions about His heart and plans.

  2. Scripture Journaling: Keep a journal where you write down attributes of God as you read Scripture. Reflect on how these attributes shape your relationship with Him.

  3. Community Engagement: Discuss your reflections with a trusted friend or small group. Share your desire to move from a contractual view of God to a relational one.

  4. Personal Evaluation: Set aside time to evaluate your relationship with God. Identify areas where you’ve relied on contracts and seek to deepen your connection instead.

Conclusion

As you move forward, remember that understanding God is a continuous journey. Embrace the challenge of knowing Him more deeply and let go of the limitations of a contractual mindset.

Closing Prayer

Take a moment to pray, asking God to reveal Himself to you in new ways and to help you cultivate a deeper relationship with Him.
