Scripture Reading and Reflection

1. John 6:47-58 (NKJV)

Read the Passage:

“Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me has everlasting life. I am the bread of life. Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and are dead. This is the bread which comes down from heaven, that one may eat of it and not die. I am the living bread which came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever; and the bread that I shall give is My flesh, which I shall give for the life of the world.”

The Jews therefore quarreled among themselves, saying, “How can this Man give us His flesh to eat?” Then Jesus said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life in you. Whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. For My flesh is food indeed, and My blood is drink indeed. He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood abides in Me, and I in him. As the living Father sent Me, and I live because of the Father, so he who feeds on Me will live because of Me. This is the bread which came down from heaven—not as your fathers ate the manna and are dead. He who eats this bread will live forever.”

Reflection Questions:

  1. What does Jesus mean when He says, “I am the bread of life”?
Reflect on the significance of Jesus being described as the "bread of life" and how this imagery relates to our spiritual nourishment.

  2. Why do you think Jesus emphasizes eating His flesh and drinking His blood?
Consider the symbolism of consuming Jesus’ flesh and blood and how it relates to the concept of eternal life and communion with Christ.

  3. How does the imagery of the bread and blood connect with the Passover and the Old Testament sacrifices?
Reflect on how the Passover lamb’s blood in the Old Testament foreshadows the sacrifice of Jesus Christ and its impact on our salvation.

Action Points

  1. Personal Prayer and Meditation: Set aside 10 minutes each day this week for prayer and meditation on the sacrifice of Jesus. Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal deeper insights into the meaning of Jesus’ blood and its significance in your life.

  2. Reflect on the Passover: Review the significance of the Passover and its connection to Jesus' sacrifice. Consider how the blood of the Passover lamb protected the Israelites and how Jesus’ blood provides protection and redemption for you.

  3. Communion Preparation: In preparation for a special communion service, reflect on the meaning of the Lord’s Supper. Spend time meditating on the importance of partaking in communion and how it symbolizes your union with Christ.

  4. Journaling: Write a journal entry about how understanding the power of Jesus’ blood impacts your daily life. Include any revelations or personal insights you receive during your study and reflection.

  5. Commit to Action: Identify one area of your life where you need to apply the power of Jesus' sacrifice. Whether it's seeking forgiveness, healing, or a deeper connection with God, make a conscious effort to apply the truth of His blood to this area.
