Repentance, renewal, and God’s transformative power.

Introduction

Welcome to this workbook designed to help you grow in your Christian faith by laying secure foundations in your spiritual life. We will focus on the themes of a clean heart and the new creation in Christ.

Opening Prayer (2 minutes)

Begin with a short prayer asking God to open your heart and mind to His Word and to help you understand and apply the teachings.

Scripture Reading (5 minutes)

Psalm 51:1-10 (NIV)

Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions. Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin. For I know my transgressions, and my sin is always before me. Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight; so you are right in your verdict and justified when you judge. Surely I was sinful at birth, sinful from the time my mother conceived me. Yet you desired faithfulness even in the womb; you taught me wisdom in that secret place. Cleanse me with hyssop, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow. Let me hear joy and gladness; let the bones you have crushed rejoice. Hide your face from my sins and blot out all my iniquity. Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.

2 Corinthians 5:17 (NIV)

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!

Reflection (10 minutes)

Reflect on the following questions. Write your responses in the space provided.

  1. Understanding Psalm 51:

    • How does David describe his state of sin and his need for God's mercy and cleansing?

    • What does it mean to you to ask God to create a clean heart in you?

  2. Understanding 2 Corinthians 5:17:

    • What does it mean to be a new creation in Christ?

    • How does this new identity change the way you see yourself and your relationship with God?

Action Points (10 minutes)

Take practical steps to apply these teachings in your daily life.

  1. Confession and Cleansing:

    • Spend a few minutes in personal confession, asking God to forgive your sins and cleanse you from all unrighteousness.

    • Write down any specific sins you need to confess and then pray, asking God to create a clean heart in you.

  2. Living as a New Creation:

    • Identify one old habit or mindset that you need to leave behind as part of your old self.

    • Write a prayer or a declaration affirming your new identity in Christ and your commitment to live out of this new creation.

Closing Prayer (3 minutes)

End with a prayer thanking God for His mercy, forgiveness, and the new life you have in Christ. Ask for His help to live each day as a new creation, reflecting His love and grace to others.
